UUL Testing of Vault Door L 608 Burglary Resistant Modular Vaults and Vault Doors

1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover vault doors and vault modular panels (for use in the construction of vault floors, walls, and ceilings) of the type intended for use in financial institutions, commercial, industrial and mercantile properties, and the like, and that are relied upon to protect the contents from burglary attack.

1.2 These requirements are intended to establish the burglary resistant rating of vault doors and modular panels according to the length of time they withstand attack by common mechanical tools, electric tools, cutting torches, or any combination of these means. The ratings based on the net working time to effect entry are as follows:

a) Class M - 1/4 hour.
b) Class 1 - 1/2 hour.
c) Class 2 - 1 hour.
d) Class 3 - 2 hours.

1.3 These requirements do not cover attacks with the burning bar (thermal lance) or explosives.

UL 680 Standard for Emergency Vault Ventilators and Vault-Ventilating Ports

1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover emergency vault ventilators and vault-ventilating ports for installation in a wall.

1.2 Emergency vault ventilators are intended to provide fresh air to persons locked in the vault by accident or during a robbery.

1.3 Vault-ventilating ports are intended for connection to an outside ventilating system that provides circulating air while the vault is open.

1.4 These requirements are intended to evaluate the integrity of electrical wiring and components and to establish burglary resistant ratings. The ratings, based on the net working time to effect entry, are as follows:

a) Class M - 1/4 hour
b) Class 1 - 1/2 hour
c) Class 2 - 1 hour
d) Class 3 - 2 hours

1.5 When installed in either a vault door or modular panel that complies with the requirements in the Standard for Burglary Resistant Vault Doors and Modular Panels, UL 608; or a reinforced concrete wall according to the manufacturer's instructions and the Standard Classification for Bank and Mercantile Vault Construction, ASTM F 1090, the products covered by these requirements do not affect the burglary resistance of the vault wall.

1.6 These requirements do not cover protection against entry by attacks with a burning bar (thermal lance) or explosives.

1.7 These units are intended to be installed in accordance with the provision of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 . However, it is intended that inspection authorities having jurisdiction be consulted before installation of electrical connections.

1.8 Products covered by these requirements are intended for installation in vaults that are used for the storage of valuables, and that are protected by special security measures that cannot be forced using normal rescue equipment, and require waiting for a time-lock or similar device to release entrapped individuals.

UL 768 - Combination Locks

1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover combination locks intended for attachment on doors of safes, chests, vaults, and the like, to provide a means of locking the boltwork against unauthorized opening.

1.2 These requirements are intended to test the ability of combination locks to resist unauthorized opening of the combination locks by sense of sight, touch, or hearing. Combination locks covered by these requirements may or may not have integral protection against entry by force.

UL 887 - Delayed Action Timelocks

1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover delayed-action timelocks intended for attachment on the doors of safes, chests, vaults, and the like, to provide a means for locking the door for a predetermined length of time as protection against burglary or robbery or both.

1.2 The timelocks covered by these requirements may be automatic, manual, or both, in operation depending upon their design. Automatic devices can be factory set to a fixed minimum time delay of 5 minutes. Manual devices are generally set by the user with a key or similar device to provide delays of 120 hours or more. Some designs may include both the automatic delay feature for interior robbery protection and the manual delay feature for burglary protection.

1.3 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard.

A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.

UL 969 - Marking and Labeling Systems

1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover adhesive attached labels for use as nameplates or markers; bearing information, instructions, or identification. An adhesive for a label may be pressure sensitive, heat activated, or solvent activated. These labels are intended to be used by manufacturers for application to their products at their place of manufacture.

1.2 These requirements also cover unprinted materials, such as face stocks, label stocks, over-laminations, laminating adhesives, and inks used by label printers to produce labels.

1.3 These requirements apply to marking and labeling systems used on complete devices, appliances, or equipment. The acceptability of a system in a particular application is to be judged under the applicable requirements in the standard covering the device, appliance, or equipment on which the system is used.

1.4 Marking and labeling systems are evaluated for application to specific surface materials that are essentially smooth and flat unless another surface configuration is specified by the manufacturer.
